Greetings from the Fire Chief:
As most of you are aware during the last 5 months the Board of Fire Commissioners and I have been reviewing data and making adjustments to our short and long range strategic plan. Several of these adjustments are due to the growth during the last 5 years. Our long range plan does take into the potential revenue that would be realized from the Pleasant Harbor Resort should it be built.
As a means to provide the 24/7 fire & EMS coverage that the community has requested of us the Board has decided to put a proposition on the August 2008 ballot to increase the General Levy to $1.10/$1,000.00 of true assessed value, this will be an increase of only .42 cents. They also decided to ask for an EMS Levy to help pay for EMS services. This Levy will be .50/$1,000.00 of true assessed value. The EMS Levy will replace the current station bond, which is currently at .35/$1,000.00 of true assessed value, this will be an increase of only .15 cents. So with both levies in place it will cost the community only .57 cents more then you are currently paying. For a home with an assessed value of $120,000.00 it will only add $68.00 more per year or just an additional $5.60 per month.
